He led the priests of Banaras and Allahabad to abolish pilgrimage tax levied on Hindus in Allahabad and Banaras. Pandit Jagannath, the author of Rasgangadhar and Gangalahari and many other Hindu writers like Chintamani, Kavindracharya and Sunderdas also lived in Shah Jahan’s court. It is notable that prilgrimage tax was abolished by Akbar but was levied again by Shah Jahan.
