(A) is true but (R) is false. As soon as Shah Jahan became ill on 6th September 1657 AD the gruesome war of succession began between his sons. Royal Army fought with the combined armies of Aurangzeb and Murad in a decisive battle near Shamugarh on 26th May, 1658 AD, in which the Royal army was defeated. The decisive battle between Aurangzeb and Dara Shikoh was fought in Deorai in March 1659. In this battle Dara was finally defeated, captured and later executed and hence, he could not become the emperor, even though he fought to be one.
