Alauddin. Alauddin Khilji had introduced the all time highest rate of land revenue (Kharaj) by increasing it up to 50% of actual production determined on the basis of land measurement. Not only this, but, he also imposed house tax (Ghari) and pasture tax (Cherai) on agrarian population. It is to remember that land revenue rate for Muslim community was only 1/4th of actual production. Khalisa land during Alauddin's reign increased, this was because he withdrew all the land provided to the religious persons and scholars, earlier under various grants. Land granted as 'Inam' and 'waqf' was also taken back.
