Revenue from Iqta was directly deposited in Sultan's account. Iqta system was introduced in India by Iltutmish. Iqta is an arabic words which means 'Land'. Iqta sytem has been elaborated by Nizam-ul-Mulk in his book 'Siyasatnama'. Muqtis or Iqtedars were the officials authorised to collect taxes. Muqti had no other right over the subjects in matter of collection of taxes. The money collected was used to pay landowner's army, which could be called by Sultan any time; making up for a relatively quick mobilisation and highly professional soldiers. A part of revenue was also paid directly to the sultan.
