Bhabar. Shivalik hills are some time called Sub- Himalayas and outer Himalayas. This range extends from Potwar basin in Punjab to Kosi river in the east. The average altitude of this Himalayan range is 700 to 1500 m. It is made up of the remnants brought by Greater Himalayas and Middle Himalayas. The longitudinal valley in between Shivalik and Middle Himalayas are known as ‘Doon’ (Dehradun) in western and central part and in eastern part they are called ‘Duars’ (Haridwar).There are plains along to the south of Siwalik range from the river Indus to Tista, called Bhabar. It is a 8 to 16 km wide belt. Terai is to the south of Bhabar and is a 15-30 km wide marshy track. Khadar represents the younger alluviums of flood plains.
