Polytheistic. The religion of early Vedic Aryans was based on nature worship and sacrificial act. Vedic Aryans established the relation of various deities with the natural powers. They believed that all natural happenings are stimulated by the related Deity. Among these deities Indra was assumed as the God of Rain and war. Agni was the second most powerful deities next to Indra who was the mediator between man and God, who performed its duties through sacrificial act. Varun was the God of water, Sun was the God of light, Earth was assumed as the goddess of productivity etc. There was ‘Polytheism’ in Rigvedic period. No evidence of Idol worship is found in Rig-Vedic society.
