Non Co-operation. The Chauri-Chaura incident took place on February 4, 1922 when a large number of protesters participating in the Non-Cooperation Movement turned violent, attacked and set fire to a police station, killing 3 civilians and 22 policemen. Hearing this incident Gandhi called a meeting of Congress Working Committee (CWC) on February 12, 1922 (popularly known as Bardoli Resolution) and declared the withdrawal of Non-Cooperation Movement. Subhash Chandra Bose called it ‘National Calamity’and said that ‘it is acceptance of failure’. In March, 1922 Gandhi was arrested for 6 years for charge of sedition on publication of article in Young India and the Non-Cooperation Movement came to an end.
