Proto historic age. With the study point of view, history has been divided into three parts on the basis of period, culture and human activities – Pre Historic, Proto Historic and Historic. The period for which there is not any written evidence available and the study about this period is based on the remains found from the excavation is known as Pre Historic period. Historic age refers to the period for which the written as well as archaeological evidences are available and written evidences could be read. Whereas, proto history refers to that period during which the written evidence is available but they have not been read yet. Thus the Indus Valley Civilization belongs to proto historic age because the pictographic script has been found from Indus Valley Civilization but could not be read and its existence is noted in Mesopotamian writings.
