He accepted the Bhagawat religion and established a pillar (Garuda Stambha) on the bank of river Betawa (Vetravati) and declared himself as ‘Param Bhagawat’. The name of ‘Vasudev’ is mentioned on the pillar. The Besnagar (Vidisha) pillar edict is the first archaeological evidence of Bhagawat sect. The pillar was devoted to God Vishnu. The pillar was erected around 113 BC in central India.
