Aurangzeb. Jizya/Jaziya was reimposed by Aurangzeb in 1679. He appointed censors of public morals in all important cities to enforce Islamic law, and he tried to put down such practices as drinking, gambling, and prostitution. According to one of his order Hindus right to repair their temples was revoked and Subedars were ordered to destroy the temples and Paathshalas. Whereas emperor Akbar had revoked Jaziya on Hindu Pilgrims in the year 1564.
