The battle of Talikota, also known as the battle of Rakshasi-Tangadi was fought in 1565 AD between Vijayanagara and the confederation of Muslim states of the south namely Ahmadnagar, Bijapur, Golconda and Bidar. The ruler of Vijayanagara at that time was Sadashiva Raya but Rama Raya was the real administrator. This battle is generally considered to mark the end of Vijayanagar empire.
